Gary Ang is the Managing Director of Macro Strategy in Temasek. His remit is to guide Temasek’s investment decisions through the complex landscape of geopolitical, policy and technological risks that impact Temasek’s portfolio and long-term returns.
Gary also advises Temasek’s AI investment team, providing them with strategic direction on ventures and the ethical use of AI and data.
Prior to joining Temasek in 2014, Gary spent 27 years in the Singapore Government, holding senior appointments across key ministries. He began his career in the Ministry of Defence, rising to the position of Deputy Secretary (Policy) where he was responsible for formulating strategic policies, establishing relations with foreign militaries and public communications.
A Brigadier-General in the Republic of Singapore Air Force, Gary commanded Tengah Air Base and was Head of Air Force Intelligence. Gary also served as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry and as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.
Gary was awarded both the President’s and the Singapore Armed Forces scholarship. He holds a BA in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Masters in Political Science from Auburn University and also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Gary received three Singapore National Day Awards, a Public Administration (Military) (Gold) medal, two (Military) (Silver) medals, and the Legion of Merit from the US government.
